BY AIR

Nearest International Airports.

Inverness (approx 37 miles 40-50min)
Aberdeen (approx 60 miles 1 ½ hr)

All international flights will likely connect flights via London. There is train and bus connections from both Aberdeen and Inverness airports to Huntly and Elgin (our nearest train stations) as well as car or 4×4 rentals. We can also arranged a taxi or driver for you.

British Airways – several flights a day from London to Aberdeen.

Easyjet – from London Luton and London Gatwick to Inverness. Or from London Gatwick, Heathrow & Luton to Aberdeen.

KLM – direct from Amsterdam to Aberdeen

Flybe – direct from London/Paris to Aberdeen and from Amsterdam/Bergen to Inverness

Ryan Air – direct from London to Aberdeen. Direct from Dublin to Aberdeen

Air Baltic – direct from Riga, Latvia – Aberdeen

Air France – direct from Paris – Aberdeen

Scandinavian Airlines – direct from Copenhagen and Oslo – Aberdeen

Widerøe’s Flyveselskap – direct from Stavanger – Aberdeen

 

BY TRAIN.

Scot Rail

A great way to discover the country. Speyside is served by several train stations with convenient with direct links from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness or London. If you are planning to explore much of Scotland consider the travelpass

The two closest train stations to Glenarder is either: Elgin or Huntly, both on the Aberdeen – Inverness line.

From London.
You can take the new and revamped Caledonian Sleeper, for those who love the allure of train travel. So much fun to get on at Euston Station in London and wake up in the highlands. Day trip or night you have two options: take the London train to Aberdeen or Inverness and then connect to Elgin or Huntly. Or you can take the train from London to Glasgow/Edinburgh and the direct but shorter connection to Avimore – which is approx 45 minutes drive to Glenarder. It is a lovely small station to arrive in and right in the heart of the Cairngorm mountains.
*Prices are very reasonable but even better if you book 21 days in advance.

 

BY BUS

Citylink & Stagecoach/Bluebird from London/Glasgow/Edinburgh to Aberdeen/ Inverness and connecting to Elgin. You can take local buses from Elgin to Aberlour. Taxis are available to take you the final 9 miles.

From Inverness – 37 miles – 50 min.

Follow the A9 to the A95. Direction Granton-on-Spey. Continue along and you will pass Ballindalloch. When you come to Marypark turn left onto the B9138. Follow this small road until you come to the B9102 intersection. Turn right. Specific directions from here will be given at time of reservation.

From Aberdeen (65 miles – 1 ½ hours)
Take the A96 signposted Inverness. Keep on the A96 passing by Huntly (38 miles). As you pass Huntly you will come to a roundabout with a large Asda Store – at this roundabout go straight through following signs for Inverness. About 1.5 miles (and as you pass a large Tesco Superstore toward the right side), turn left on the A920 signpost Dufftown. Follow the signs for the centre of Dufftown and when you reach the clock tower turn right onto the A941 to Elgin. Follow this road to Craigellachie (5 miles) and at the T junction turn left to Aberlour – 2 miles further.

From Glasgow (approx 200 miles – 3 ½ – 4 hours).
Take the M80/A80 north towards Stirling. Just before Stirling the M80 joins the M9. Stay on here travelling northwards and when it changes to the A9 near Dunblane continue on the A9 to Perth. At Perth follow the A9 north to Avimore. Turn off and go through Avimore and out on the A95 sign posted Elgin (A941). At the second roundabout on the outskirts of Grantown (14 miles), turn right over the River Spey and head towards Elgin. Keep on this road as far as Charlestown of Aberlour (24 miles from Grantown).

From Edinburgh (approx 180 miles – 3 ½ hours).
Take the A90 across the Forth Road Bridge and join the M90 signposted to Perth. The M90 splits just before Perth. Be sure to head for the signs that say A9 North and Inverness. Once you are on the A9, follow the directions above. From Inverness (55 miles – 1 ¼ hours) Head out on the A96 signposted to Aberdeen. Travel through Nairn and Forres. As you enter Elgin you will pass Dr Gray’s Hospital on the right. At the 1st roundabout carry straight on following the A96. At the 2nd roundabout turn right up the hill. Cross the 3rd (mini) roundabout outside the Comet electrical store and follow the road to the 4th roundabout. Turn right signpost to Perth A941 (A95) and cross the railway bridge. Go straight on at the 5th roundabout and then again at the next roundabout at the top of the hill. From here it is 13 miles to Craigellachie and another 2 miles to Aberlour.
